What is IELTS?
IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is globally trusted by 10,000 academic institutions and employers internationally. Administered by the IDP education system, the IELTS assesses applicants’ competence in 4 key aspects of the English language: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. More than three million applicants apply for over 150 international locations. The IELTS exam every twelve months, often seeking out opportunities for higher education, employment, and everlasting residency.
Types of IELTS Test
Academic Test: This option is designed for students aspiring to pursue education in international academic institutions.
General Training Test: On the other hand, this test is the preferred choice for individuals seeking employment or opportunities to work in international settings.
IELTS Test Format
- The IELTS examination involves Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking and caters for them all within a mere 3 hours.
- There are two variations of the IELTS test: Academic and General Training. The Listening and Speaking sections therefore are the same in both variants, but the contents of the Reading and Writing parts are slightly different based on which test is taken.
- In both the IELTS tests, the Listening, Reading, and Writing sub-tests are done one after the other without any break in between.
- On the other hand, Speaking might be arranged to be completed up to one week before or after an individual’s remaining test parts depending on the availability of the test center.
- Adding all the above examinations, the total examination duration can be summed up to 2 hours and 45 minutes.
